business advisory council

We believe it is crucial for the success of our Business Management Program to build strong, new ties with a wide range of local, regional and national businesses. A grant from the James S. Kemper Foundation enabled us to significantly accelerate the process of developing these critical new business partnerships by supporting the establishment of Business Advisory Council in Fall 2004.

The members of the Business Advisory Council are providing critical, ongoing input for our evolving curriculum, ensuring that what our students learn in the classroom will be relevant to their careers after graduation. Members of the Business Advisory Council also draw on their careers and experiences to bring valuable perspectives to the College's new advisory system.

One of the Sweet Briar's most innovative initiatives this new advising system takes advising far beyond traditional course selection with an academic advisor. A student now has the opportunity to draw on the knowledge of members of the Business Advisory Council, other alumnae, friends of the College, parents, professional staff, and additional faculty for career-related suggestions and real-world insights that will supplement the student's in-class experience.

The Business Advisory Council serves as an important resource for the Business Management Program. The Business Advisory Council meets once each year at Sweet Briar College and during these meetings members work closely with Sweet Briar faculty, students, and staff, networking with students, suggesting improvements to the Business Management Program, conducting classroom visits, and attending luncheon and dinner discussions.
