studying business at sweet briar

The Business curriculum is designed to give individual students a hands-on grasp of business methods, business cultures, and personnel interactions typically found in business organizations. Recognizing that work experience is critical to the student learning process, work experience is simulated in class projects, cases, and labs, while actual work experience is the task of our integrated, multiple-stage internship program.

The Business Program is one of the largest majors at Sweet Briar and has been designed to reflect both our strengths as a woman's college and our philosophy of educational nexus. It places strong emphasis on three key areas:

  1. In-class and inter-class simulations of business practices and culture
  2. A structured focus and analysis of ethics and its application to business
  3. Experience in the business world through on campus and off campus internships

In addition, to offering the Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management, the Department supports the Equine Studies Certificate Program offered by our nationally recognized riding program (see http://www.riding.sbc.edu) and is partnering with our newly expanded Department of Physics and Engineering Studies to offer a B.A. degree in Engineering Management (see http://www.engineering.sbc.edu).
