home faculty curriculum internships business advisory council
While we can create class exercises that simulate business activities and culture, we can never replicate the experience students' gain from actually working for a company. Internships are the only way to give students that experience.
Recognizing the importance of real experience to our graduates and the contributions such experience can make to their undergraduate business education, students required to complete at least one internship as part of the Business Management major and are strongly encouraged on to consider undertaking more.
The faculty of the Business Management Program work closely with students and with the staff of Sweet Briar's award-winning Career Services Center to arrange academic year and full-time summer internships. Recent internships held by Sweet Briar students include those with: American Express Financial Advisors, the Discovery Channel, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Lord and Taylor, JP Morgan, Logicon, Nieman Marcus, Walt Disney World, Centra Health, AOL Time Warner, Amherst County Planning Department, the Bank of the James, Lockheed Martin, and Northwest Mutual Financial Services.
This emphasis on using internships to gain educational experience outside the classroom is very much in keeping with goals articulated in the Sweet Briar Promise
The Business Management faculty at Sweet Briar College and the Career Services staff, are committed to providing relevant and coordinated guidance to students grappling with the process of mastering business cultures, planning their careers, and finding challenging and fulfilling employment after graduation.
